MUET-result-2013

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13: The results of the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the November 2013 session will be released on Thursday.

A press statement released by the Malaysian Examination Council today said the candidates could get their results at their respective schools or learning institutes beginning at 10am while private students would receive their results by post.

The examination results can also be checked via the Short Messaging Service(SMS) by typing MUET<space>RESULT<space><Identity Card No.> and sending it to  15888 from 12:01am on Thursday or by surfing the Malaysian Examination Council's portal at http://mpm.edu.my from 9am on the same date, reported Bernama.

"Candidates who are dissatisfied with their MUET results can make an appeal for a review by paying a fee of RM70. The closing date for the review is Jan 27," it said.

Meanwhile, MUET registration for the July 2014 Session will be open from Jan 16 until March 17.

Malaysian University English Test (MUET) is a test of English language proficiency, largely for university admissions. The test is administered by the MPM which stands for Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (Malaysian Examinations Council) which also runs the STPM - Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia examinations.

Most candidates who sit for MUET do so as they aspire for admissions into public universities and colleges. All prospective candidates have to register online, through the MPM Website with a registration fee of RM60.00 and the fees will be increased to RM100.00 in 2012. The MPM will administer the MUET three times a year, beginning in 2012.

Government servants currently in service also have to take the MUET for purposes such as promotions. This will ensure that their command of English will adhere to a certain credible standard

Components, Scoring and Grading. There are four components in MUET:
  • Listening (800/1)-(45 marks)
  • Speaking (800/2)-(45 marks)
  • Reading (800/3)-(120 marks)
  • Writing (800/4)-(90 marks)
The maximum score for Listening and Speaking respectively is 45, 120 for Reading Comprehension and 90 for Writing. The aggregated score for the four papers is 300. The scores are then graded into 6 bands, with Band 6 the highest and Band 1 the lowest.

Band 6- Very good user (Aggregated score:260-300) Very good command of the language. Highly expressive, fluent, accurate and appropriate language: hardly any inaccuracies. Very good understanding of language and contexts. Functions extremely well in the language.

Band 5- Good user (Aggregated score:220-259) Good command of the language. Expressive, fluent, accurate and appropriate language but with minor inaccuracies. Good understanding of language and contexts. Functions well in the language.

Band 4- Competent user (Aggregated score:180-219) Satisfactory command of the language. Satisfactory expressive and fluent, appropriate language but with occasional inaccuracies. Satisfactory understanding of language and contexts. Functions satisfactorily in the language.

Band 3- Modest user (Aggregated score:140-179) Modest command of the language. Modestly expressive and fluent, appropriate language but with noticeable inaccuracies. Modest understanding of language and contexts. Able to function modestly in the language.

Band 2- Limited user (Aggregated score:101-139) Limited command of the language. Lacks expressiveness, fluency and appropriacy: inaccurate use of the language resulting in breakdown in communication. Limited understanding of language and contexts. Limited ability to function in the language.

Band 1- Extremely limited user (Below 100) Poor command of the language. Unable to use language to express ideas: inaccurate use of the language resulting in frequent breakdowns in communication. Little or poor understanding of language and contexts. Hardly able to function in the language.

Locations and Test Dates
The Malaysia Examination Council test centres are largely in national secondary schools (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan) that offers Form 6; Matriculation Colleges, certain universities, as well as certain private and semi-private colleges. The test is run three times annually, in February, July and November beginning next year (2012). As of this year, twice - the MUET June and December papers.

Three MUET components - Listening, Reading Comprehension and Writing, are usually tested on the same day. They are all carried out with the same papers nationwide. Prospective candidates should refer to the MPM timetable as to the dates that the tests are being scheduled.

The Speaking component is tested where the students are divided into groups of four, with different papers, that change for every session (two sessions from morning till noon) and for every examination day. The candidates are tested according to two tasks, A and B. Task A is for individual presentation and Task B is for group discussion. During the test the candidates are first being quarantined. They will remain there until they are called into the test room. This is a standard procedure to prevent them from communicating to people outside the Speaking test group. This is to ensure the integrity of the MUET Speaking Paper.

Assalamualaikum

Today I would like to briefly speak out of my opinion regarding MUET. Darn ! What is MUET? Its' Malaysian University English Test. I have taken this test as I was doing my Foundation TESL in UiTM Kuantan couple of years ago.

Yesterday I saw one of my lecturer stated that more than half of the students who're doing Foundation in Law failed to gain band 4 in MUET and it is one of the requirement for the students to further their studies in higher level IF they wanted to study LAW or TESL.

In my opinion... IN MY OPINION... you can't judge the students ability just with one TEST. Oh no! its FOUR test with speaking, listening, writing and reading. And another "Oh no!" because you can't be too stupid not to get band 4. Yea yea yea! Hell right! Getting band 4 is a piece of cake. Secret recipe cake I guess? Or my future fountain wedding cake? *yummy*

To be honest, my MUET result did not enlighten my world. I can still remember as I was sitting for the listening test. I was not feeling well. I kept coughing. I had fever at that time due to some hard work done for 2 weeks before that. I was too weak. Plus, my mom was not there at that moment. She was in Mekah for a couple of weeks. I coming out non stop and my face turned red as the cili padi. *spicy* I can see Yan looked at me and asked me either I'm doing good. Hey ! Do I need to tell this? The moment I felt my whole body is going to burst out? No no no.. MAJLIS PEPERIKSAAN MALAYSIA would not like to hear my story. They are only interested my with result. Is it their fault? Of course no. It is my fault. Totally my fault. For not taking care of myself. it is MY FAULT. No doubt !!!

Because of MUET, my TESL's friends went studying separately. Around of applause for those who managed to pursue their bachelor in TESL education. *tepuk amoi-amoi amai-amai*

There was one friend I still wonder what is he doing at this moment. He was quite brilliant. But I am not sure if he managed to continue his study or he stops just right there. *one story telling*

There were also my friends who were very fluent in English. Can't beat them. My english is too simple. I don't really have bombastic words cause I will always forget. *ka-ching* They were very fluent and speak better English but they do not have the chance to study TESL.

So, for those who have the ambition of studying Foundation in TESL or LAW. Prepare yourself from now on. Everything is going to be your responsibility. And your luck. Seriously? Luck? It is actually the will of God.

And MUET, for sending me to UiTM KBM (kota bandaraya Melaka) and MSU (Management and Science University). I should thank you and hug you tighly. *xoxo*

InshaaAllah... The best plan, is the plan of GOD
Allah s.w.t
The One and Only God.
Allahuakbar !

chase LIFE create JOY! ;)*: Compile my 2014 resolutions!

Posted: 10 Jan 2014 10:08 PM PST

1. Practise healthy lifestyle.
Actually it's quite hard for me to implement those 'sleep earlier, wake up earlier' life routine, especially on the weekends(friday and saturday).Although those stacks of projects and homeworks make me almost impossible to make the resolution true but i'll try my very best to organise a better time management. And that's freaking important to me.

2.Step away from the scale
Keep fit,in other words!Avoiding supper is pretty hard for me,so i'm now to start practising to have a healthier diet and certain exercises too.Have more vege and fruits.Workout for at least 30 squats per day.Drink more water. And keep going!Sincerely,i hope that it works!

3.Read more
Read at least 1 or 2 English book(fiction,non-fiction,newspaper whatever do help in English) per months.Work hard to improve and enhance my English level(blogging help bit by bit also,i believed that) as i gonna sit for my Malaysia University English Test(MUET) paper in the coming July and i hope to strike for a Band 5.But i actually pretty weak in grammar and vocab,so,follow teachers' advices-READ!

4.Keep the room clean
It's freaking tough for me to accomplish this simple task especially during exam seasons. As you enter the room, you can feel like you're in the World War II. Papers and books cover my bed,table,chairs....in short,it's an eyesore indeed! These situation has lasted for years, and i know that's a bad habit, yet i fail to curb for it.The only resolution for this 'resolution' is PERSEVERANCE.

5.Be grateful.
Appreciate the single moments with friends and family. They'll leave someday,or probably I,myself.I feel contented to have my sisters(from primary school till secondary school best friends) and some of my secondary school best friends.Although they've leaved for their studies, but we still have some gathering when everyone is back.As for the present,i enjoyed myself to mingle around with my 6th form bestie(left about one year). So,make the days count instead of counting the days left.

6.Strive for the best in STPM
This.Is.A.BIG.One.I gonna finish my one-and-a-half year 6th form studies in this year. For my expectation,i don't think i did my 1st term exam well,so i plan to have a retake for it.For the coming 2nd and 3rd term exam,i'll try to excel for a better grade.It.Is.A.MUST!
